Sol Cubano sits quietly on Watt Avenue in North Highlands, serving up a straightforward, home-style Cuban and Caribbean dining experience that stands out in the Sacramento region. This no-frills restaurant feels like stepping into a friendly local kitchen rather than a polished commercial dining spot. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, where the focus is clearly on the food and the warm, welcoming vibe from staff who make an effort to chat and share recommendations.

This place is best suited for folks who appreciate authentic Latin American flavors without any over-the-top presentation. The menu features Cuban staples like Lechon Asado, Ropa Vieja, and Bistec Empanizado, served in hearty portions that tend to appeal to families and groups looking for satisfying, flavorful meals. Side dishes like Moros y Cristianos rice and beans, Platanos Maduros, and crunchy Tostones provide familiar Caribbean touches. Coffee lovers will find comfort in the classic Cuban Cafe Con Leche, ideal for unwinding after a meal.

People often drop in for a relaxed lunch or dinner where the pace isn’t rushed and the focus remains on enjoying traditional dishes that balance seasoning and freshness well. The kitchen keeps things approachable with spicy hot sauce on the table, which adds just enough kick without overwhelming the natural flavors.

The neighborhood setting contributes to its charm — it’s less about trendy dining and more about reliably good food that locals appreciate. Visitors new to Cuban food will find it an inviting place to sample authentic fare without needing to travel far for a genuine taste. Even those who’ve moved away from the islands might enjoy the comforting familiarity of dishes like Picadillo or Empanadas, all served with freshness and portion sizes that feel generous.

Typically, weekday lunches or early dinners are when the restaurant hums with steady business, drawing in families and neighbors. The owner’s personable nature and staff’s openness create a relaxed, approachable environment where questions about the menu and suggestions feel welcomed. For visitors seeking to wind down with a dessert, the Chocoflan is a sweet note to end on.

In essence, Sol Cubano offers a slice of Caribbean comfort in a neighborhood setting, best for diners who value authenticity and straightforward hospitality over flash. It’s a good spot to reconnect with Cuban classics or explore Latin flavors in a setting that feels rooted in community and casual ease.

First time here, came with my Mom, she had a lechon sandwich and I had steak empanizado which was amazing! We shared an order of tostones de pollo, the chicken was juicy and tender. Also the hot sauce on the tables is really good, just a little kick. The guava and cheese pastries and empanadas are good too. Everything seemed fresh and everything had flavor, nothing is over seasoned everything is just right. Super friendly staff, very clean, reasonable prices

Best Cuban food I’ve had in a very long time. Everything we had was delicious and the service was spot on! Highly recommend you check this place out.

The Lechon Asado was both very delicious and at an extremely affordable price for the portion they provided. The sampler platter had a bit of everything, and it's definitely worth ordering. The staff were very welcoming and informative. I also recommend having a piece of flan before leaving. There aren't many Cuban restaurants in the Sacramento region that I know of, so I'm very happy to have found this place.

This place rocks! Small, quaint. The owner was very personable and funny. The food was delicious! We each had the lechon asado, picadillo, ropa vieja, and pollo empanizado. The rice and beans were awesome! We had the platanos maduros and tostones and no complaints. To finish it off, we had a cafe con leche and flan. Very satisfying. Not too sure if there are more Cuban restaurants in the area, but you won't go wrong with this joint and it's great to support local small businesses. Oh, ask for the batido de guanabana

New to Sacramento, but always live trying new Cuban restaurants. This place is seriously amazing. The food is VERY authentic. I tried several plates and everything I ate was very tasty. I would say it's the best Caribbean restaurant I've eaten at in the Sacramento area. Will definitely go back there soon. Highly recommend.

I wanted a quick snack while exploring the stores on Watt so I ordered croquetas and papa rellenos to go and they were ready fast. OMG the croquetas were hot, crispy and so delicious I've never had anything like the taste and texture I can't wait to eat them again and try more from the menu! And you can't go wrong with mashed potato and beef spheres of fried crispy perfection! I Love being able to visit Cuba from my backyard thank you for existing Sol Cubano!

This is a great little spot, perfect for lunch! My first time here I had to try the Cubano that I’ve heard so much about and it did not disappoint! The bread was crispy and buttery on the outside but soft in middle, the pork/ham was delicious with some fresh pickles that provided a good snap with each bite.
